Why Practice is Key to Mastering Math

I recall my first year Computer Science class at the University of Toronto. My professor was presenting his introduction slides, and on one of them, a question appeared: "How to be good at programming." I anticipated a discussion about programming tips, but the very next slide displayed "How to become a Good Hockey Player." The profound answer was later revealed: "Practice, Practice, Practice."

The principle of mastering and becoming an expert in any subject through consistent practice is universally applicable. This is precisely why many professions mandate extensive hours of supervised job training. For instance, to pilot a BOEING commercial aircraft, one must accumulate 3000 hours of flying experience.

Through several years of teaching experience in both public and private school settings, I've consistently observed one common factor among students who struggle in Mathematics: a lack of practice. Math Emperor is dedicated to addressing this by providing a structured High School Ontario Mathematics curriculum (including AP and IB courses). We place a strong emphasis on working through diverse practice problems after each lesson and assigning a significant amount of homework problems for students to master new concepts and skills at home.

My students will benefit from access to Google Classroom, where they can conveniently access handouts for each lesson, along with homework assignments. The recent pandemic has accelerated the exploration of various online tools for interactive learning experiences. By leveraging state-of-the-art educational technology, I am confident that students will have a highly engaging and effective learning experience in my classroom.
