Why Summer Reach Ahead Math Program?
Imagine learning a new language and you stop speaking or writing for two consecutive month. For sure you will be struggling to recall words to create your sentences. Doing Math is a skill. You need to continuously practice doing Math in order to master the skills. Do you know some of the top universities like University Of Oxford gives degree in Mathematics as Bachelor of Arts, not Bachelor of Science! This is because learning and doing Math is not science, rather it's an Art.
The goal of the Summer Reach Ahead program at Math Emperor to make sure students are equipped with necessary skills to dive into their new academic year in their Math courses.
As a Department Head Of Mathematics at Canada's largest school board, I have seen in the past how much Math Gap student face when they transition into a new grade in September. Math Emperor Reach Ahead Program is designed in a way to bridge the gap and cover most of the key curriculum expectations during the month of July and August.
What experts say about learning Math during summer?
Prevent the Summer Slide: Research shows students tend to lose some knowledge over summer break, especially in math. This "summer slide" can put them behind when school starts again. Spending some time on math helps retain information and prevents them from having to re-learn things they already knew.
Confidence and Readiness: Consistent practice builds confidence. By engaging with math over the summer, even in a small way, students can approach new concepts in the fall with a more positive attitude and feel more prepared to tackle them.
Stronger Foundation: Math builds on itself. Gaps in understanding can make future learning more challenging. Summer can be a chance to address any lingering weaknesses or areas where a student might need some extra help. This sets them up for success in the coming school year.
Note: All the Reach Ahead Summer Math Program sessions are group based with the maximum of 7 students in each class. Individual sessions are available upon request.
